Description - A
Vintage theatrical costume in a box marked Mitey Man. The futuristic costume consisting of a cape , mask /hat and cuffs in blue with yellow bolts and red and white piping . The tag marked Johnson ( attributed to Mabel Johnson) . The size of the costume suggests it was possibly a child's costume , but adults were a lot smaller in that era. Could have also been used in a broadway production.
Age - ca 1930's
Size -  Cape 38" wide x 23" long , cuffs 5" x 4 " , Hat / mask 17" long x 8"
Condition - Costume in excellent condition. The box with some tape repairs.
Bio -
Mabel Emma Johnston Graduated in 1922 from Pennsylvania Museum And School Of Industrial Art (now known as The University Of The Arts) from the department of Industrial Art.  She won 2 prize awards for costume design this same year in a competition.  After graduation, Johnston got her first Broadway job designing costumes for "Sun Showers" musical comedy in c.1923.
She continued to work continuously for Broadway throughout the 1920's for musical revues and comedies.
Most of Mabel Johnston's designs cannot be tied to a specific Broadway production.
